Herson Fernández Machado

General Director, Dancer, Dance Instructor

From a young age I have been involved in artistic activities in the community and participated in many dance events organized by the community. During primary school I took various classes in Cuban folklore and traditional dances.

In July 2008 I graduated from UCI university as an IT Engineer. During my studies I participated in performing arts activities through national university groups such as INFODANZ. With these groups, I won various prizes at different levels both as dancer and director of the university's Conjunto Folklórico Universitario Ilú Ashé. As director and dancer for this first group of mine, I participated in numerous projects. After I finished my social service, I left university and joined a school for Cuban dances, Viadanza, from January 2011 to November 2014. During that time I also worked on various assignments for the company Danza Chévere.

When I finished my second year of social service I became a dancer for the group Espectáculo Villa de San Cristóbal. During the next 6 months I became its producer for 4 months and then assistant director. At the same time I started setting up a children's community project named Manantial, where I teach children basic dance and theater. Currently, I am establishing and consolidating my new dance company Kubasoy. In addition to being the general director, I am also a dancer and instructor for Cuban dances for the company.

Before completing my studies I left the academy and went to the Instituto Superior de Arte ISA, where I continued developing my career in performing arts up to the present.

After university I joined the dance company ISADANZA and appeared in various performances in and outside university. I was also a dancer for different companies such as PB y sus Estrellas, La Compañía de Espectáculos del Circo Nacional de Cuba, Salsa Ashé, La Compañía de Espectáculos Ashé Habanos, La Compañía danzaría Yoldance; I worked as a salsa instructor for the German agency Viadanza Tanzreisen and  as a dancer for Danza Chévere.

Currently, I am a member of the Kubasoy dance company where I am stage director, choreographer and instructor for Cuban dances.

From an early age I tried to follow my calling for performing arts and especially dance by taking classes at the Casa de la Cultura when I was 8. In addition to dance classes, I also went to theater classes.

During my time in high school I took part in various activities, for example as a member of the Rueda de Casino at the Dulce María Escalona school and the children's group Juan Francés, with which we came in first and second place respectively in competitions.

I then continued dancing with a community group which focused on Cuban dances and with which I undertook various activities.

I then started my studies and graduated as a social worker. Currently, I am a member of Kubasoy dance company, where I am a dancer and instructor, specializing in Cuban dances.
